How a Pierce crystal oscillator works and more information about the fundamentals of oscillator circuits. More oscillators in my book "Retro Radio" (Dutch text), author Ko Tilman, ISBN 978-90-5381-234-1. Though the text is Dutch (and there is a lot of text...) the schematics are understandable for people interested in radio circuits. Correction to the video: in the end I connect the counter to the 470 P and 18 P capacitor, not the oscilloscope. It shows the damping from the counter input circuit.

  • @meming4 Sorry but I don't know the real phase shift in this circuit. Perhaps it is possible to find an answer when you study the substitution schematic from a quartz cristal.

  • Hey, I don't understand how this circuit oscillates, because for oscillation you need a 360 degree phase shift and a gain greater than unity right? well wouldn't there be a 180 degree shift at resonance because the transistor is an inverting amplifier?
