Although we don't really get that many hurricanes uo here in Canada, I was recently in Florida, and all they were talking about on the news was Hurricane Gustav. So i did some research, and I made this video.
laughable mitch ahead of camille and labor day thats like saying willie mcgee was better than barry bonds or koko b ware was better than hogan Most intense landfalling U.S. hurricanes 1 "Labor Day" 1935 892 mbar 2 Camille 1969 909 mbar 3 Katrina 2005 920 mbar 4 Andrew 1992 922 mbar 5 "Indianola" 1886 925 mbar 6 "Florida Keys" 1919 927 mbar 7 "Okeechobee" 1928 929 mbar 8 Donna 1960 930 mbar 9 Carla 1961 931 mbar 10 Hugo 1989 934 mbar
@zappasaurus although Camille's winds were stronger Camille had a storm sure of 24-26 ft while Katrina had like 30ft Although Katrina was still wide when it landfalled but Katrina damaged most of New Orleans and Camille did light damage to New Orleans
@JHAYTOT1 Interesting. I never really thought dollars was the only way to measure hurricanes. The most powerful reliably measured weather related event ever to hit the US is Camille. With sustained winds of over 190 mph and gusts over 200 mph and a storm surge in excess of 24 ft she was the real deal. Unlike Katrina, Camille made landfall as a Cat 5 storm. The only saving grace was that she was not as wide as Katrina. She was more in the nature of a small tornado rather than a hurricane.
hurricane Camille and Hugo are not used anymore.
