From the play "Zero Hour" written and performed by Jim Brochu, famed actor Zero Mostel talks about the Hollywood Blacklist and the House Unamerican Activities Committee, and about "Loose Lips," Jerome Robbins who gave names.

  • I'm a college freshman and would like to find out more about the Hollywood Blacklist. Can anyone advise on good resources i.e. books, documentaries, etc. that give good overviews of the subject. Thank you.

  • @boy18inva Check a book called Naming Names.

  • Rob...Zero was blacklisted. This not just his opinion. This was his life...and yes he is right, leftist jews were targeted.

  • Zero's politics were personal. He wasn't into communism, per se. He admits in the play that many of them were naive. But he also talks about how the blacklist was a terrifying time for people whose political involvement was mostly negligible -- but that many of his friends' careers were destroyed, and his best friend committed suicide over it.

  • That Dude can Deliver Lines like a MF !

  • @RobGoth100 Both the extreme left and your rightest views are wrong for this crap we are stuck with and trying to keep afloat. That said, don't even think of insinuating that Mr. Mostel was not a great entertainer and a man of absolute integrity. The entire slate of Democrat and Republican clowns wouldn't be good enough to wipe his ass, they are such obvious low life shit.

  • Zero Mostel is one of American entertainment's treasures and it is so sad that we do not give him him the attention he deserves. Obviously, he was also a man of great integrity.

  • Good script... great performance. Would like to see more, or better yet, see it live.

  • Politics schmalitics ... the acting is strong but lacks nuances, subtlty, pauses, etc. It's okay.

  • Well. . .I AM a leftist. And one reason I am a leftist is because of what my grandparents' friends went through. Those artists and intellectuals were their friends. They lost jobs and got driven out simply for *having* different political opinions.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the video. I'm forwarding the link to my dad.
