"Kansas City" was written by the famed rock and roll production team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and first was recorded by Little Willie Littlefield in 1952 as "K.C. Loving", a title Littlefield preferred. Wilbert Harrison, a Charlotte, NC native, took the song into a New York studio in 1959 along with a trio that included Wild Jimmy Spruill on guitar and covered the tune as "Kansas City", the title originally used by Leiber & Stoller. The recording became a mega-hit going to #1 on the pop charts during the spring of 1959.

  • @Nocaro without a doubt. Would U know if he played all the instruments himself on this? He was famous as a "one-man band".

  • The late great Wilbert Harriso passed away at the V A Hospital in Salisbury,N.C. a few years ago.I have an original 45 of this on Fury records plus I played Lets Work Together as a Boss Hitbound long before Canned Heat gave us the cover version.I had some interesting conversatons with Wilbert on the state of the music business as well as royalties etc what an interesting person who truly owns one of the top 40 all time greats in Kansas City.RIP WILBERT !

  • Happy 51st anniversary to my mom and dad in San Antonio,Texas. This was their song.

  • @sunnyelizabeth1 I'm 64 and I love it too.

  • In North Denver, all the Mexicans had their own dance, called " The Kansas City", just for this song. I have to admit it--it was a cool line dance, they did. I'm Italian, so I didn't count! Wolfsky9
