That's a truth and a lie, on both their parts. They have each been offered major roles that they turned down, and when you say "No" a number of times, people stop asking. Cher was offered "War Of The Roses" and "Thelma & Louise" -turned 'em down. Bette was offered "Sister Act" and "Misery" - turned 'em down...(if they had done those movies, more offers would have come in...)
I notice a pattern, when talking about movies. The same thing happened to Cher, eventhough Cher has and oscar a 4 golden globes, the parts never came pouring in. These ladies have had to deal with people thinking they are just one shot wonders, and having to proof themselves past their perpective images.
She is a True STAR !!! She is passionate, she is powerful, she is not afraid to get '' smashed '' on stage - regardless of what she is saying she is not reserved or conservative at all during her performance. I think the minuit she is up on that stage she stops thinking of what the audience will think of her, she will do anything to express her art, she is fearless. After all she is BETTE MIDLER !!! And that 's why we Love Her !
She's just delicious, isn't she? I love that she avoids the herd mentality, that she admits to making mistakes (weezened instead of wizened), says she is VERY conservative in real life and tells her daughter "NO!" Thank you for sharing this. :-)
Katie: I love you, I think.
Bette: Why thank you, Katie! Let's get married!
ahahahaha I love this woman

What a great interview. Isn't she terrific? Such a warm strong person with a down to earth view of life. And a master singer as well.

I truly wish she did Misery. It would have placed her in a higher level of Hollywood. But oh well...she is still Divine!
