Watch Mark Wallace use two Profoto D1s to get an old fashioned look in portrait photography. He uses one D1 with a gobo to get this hazy, faded background while using another directly on the model; these two together separate the background from foreground for a distinct and crisp look.
@robbyjai Aperture doesn't matter, only subject flash bg ratios and shutter speed. I doubt you know anything about studio photography.

@mamarriott Im pretty sure youve only ever used onboard flash cause clearly dont know what your talkin about, in future, best not to make statements about subjects you know nothing about in the presence of experts.

@mamarriott what makes u sure he didnt shoot against the white background? do u know anything about studio lighting and the relationship between light power, distance from background, aperture? if u did u would know the inverse law. HE clearly says that he didnt want the light spilling against the back wall. by using a smaller aperture like F8-F11 and the correct distance from the back wall u can MAKE any walls go black. EVEN white ones. I'm not sure u know what u are talking about

People just move on if your not satisfied with the video. Besides try getting this shot with a point and shoot. Because most of you just have a point and shoot.
