ElBaradei Remarks on Disarmament of World Powers

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Chief Mohammad ElBaradei has considered major nuclear powers responsible for the proliferation of atomic weapons across the world. ElBaradei, who along with the Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema has participated in a conference in Rome, in order to discuss Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), said to prevent dangers resulting from proliferation of atomic weapons, all countries, which possess nuclear arsenals should be disarmed.

Meanwhile, the Italian Foreign Minister also considered the current world nuclear crisis to be due to U.S. unilateralist conduct. Despite the termination of Cold War; collapse of the former Soviet Union and conclusion of disarmament pacts, proliferation of nuclear weapons and production of new types of weapons, which are much more destructive than previous bombs, pose a threat against the international community. U.S. and Russia are the main producers of nuclear weapons, worldwide. Within the framework set for development of militarism during Bush's Presidential term, U.S. has produced new nuclear weapons, which has led to international community's numerous criticisms. Despite concluding disarmament pacts with Russia, U.S. has stored these weapons. With its unilateralist withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (ABM) in 2002, which was concluded between Moscow and Washington in 1972, U.S. provoked a new round of arms race across the globe, following the collapse of former Soviet Union. With Washington's withdrawal from ABM Treaty, which is the fundamental pact among disarmament treaties, White House intends to establish the missile defense shield system in parts of the world, in order to become the only military super power, worldwide. U.S. militarism during the recent years has sparked off many countries' tendency toward production and proliferation of destructive weapons. While the U.S. does not commit itself to disarmament treaties, it also supports the Zionist regime, which is not a member of NPT and possesses hundreds of atomic bombs. Despite the cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran with IAEA and its membership in NPT, U.S. obstructs Iran's access to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Undoubtedly, the countries equipped with atomic weapons threaten the world and no international source is preventing them from threatening the international community. In fact, in order to materialize worldwide disarmament, the world powers should take the first step. International community needs a competent international source, which would represent all countries and secure disarmament of all countries, especially world powers. Overall, establishment of a world security order free from destructive weapons, especially atomic weapons, will greatly help toward eradication of poverty, development of health standards, creation of a healthy and clean environment as well as stability and progress of mankind.

  • what are you talking about?

    1. Iran does not have nuclear weapons program. Israel and US do.

    2. Iran has never threatened Israel with nuclear weapons. Israel and US have threatened to bomb Iran with tactical nuclear weapons (bunker busters).

    3. Even if Iran did have a nuke, bombing Israel would be shooting her own foot, as the fallout travels west to east.

  • Stop perpetuating the ridiculous notion that Iran would actually use nuclear weapons on Israel. No leader would be foolish enough to do that. This is just an excuse that's put forth to justify aggression and intervention in Middle Eastern affairs. Wake up!

  • The world blindly follows the Islamic Mr. Muslim El Baradei while he stalls for Iran, as they build their nukes and missles to use on Israel and the U.S., starting Armageddon. Have fun folks, cuz there's no stopping it now!
