Video collage documenting the history of Woodside, Queens compiled for an immigration research project by LaGuardia Community College student Christina Abad.
Interesting, but I never cared for Woodside. Of all towns in Queens County, Woodside is so drab, dreary, dull and gloomy. Even in it's brighter days, it never was a fashionable place. I get the creeps the few times a year I go there.
Having moved from Manhattan back in '77 and lived in Woodside for 30+ years, it is always good to know a little history about your surroundings; thanks for a great vid!
Awesome video! My parents still live in Woodside. Grew up in the seventies and eighties. Many of pictures bring back many memories. My parents still reside right next to the old hire house, which is two doors from the old Meyers Hotel, which is now 58th St. & 39th Ave, formely 5th St. & Riker Ave. I still go there to visit my parents, but it's not the same place i grew up in.
@8bitfist It is the Kelly house not O'Kelly. John A. Kelly purchased 115 acres in 1826 from the heirs of Joseph Sackett which included the manor house pictured. He is my gr.gr.gr. grandfather (1792-1833). He came to NYC and lived with his wife Anna Maria Friedle on 117 William St. After his death his widow married Caleb Tappan Howell. The Kelly's had 4 children: John A.F., John Constantine, Maria H. and Anna Maria (my gr.gr.grandmother).
