I am an American of less than half Italian descent and speak no word of Italian, thus zero previous connection. I was taken to this race when I was 16 (Now 24) and I must say that if you have a chance to be there, No matter what age you are, you MUST go. It is the most intense sports event I have ever witnessed, bar none. I watch A LOT of sports. The Contradas - The Parties - The Tradition - The Love. There is 2 a year. JUST GO! I'll be back again one day.

why do other people have to denigrate centuries old traditions of other countries by using terms such as barbaric etc etc..each country has to right to perform their own traditions.I love Siena..the history, traditions and culture of the place..so emblematic...and the Palio is awesome..the joy and the chaos....

E' una cosa bellissima! Mi piacerebbe un sacco vedere il Palio di Siena!
