This is the original version. What you heard is not a siren; it's a slide whistle. Varese scored this version for two sirens, the aforementioned whistle, bird scare and other kitcheware not found in the revised.

Certainly not the greatest Ameriques I've heard (what an awful choice of siren to use in a work like this...). It's certainly a very commendable effort, though, and for that I give you props.
