These are the Katavasias that are chanted more or less from the month between the Presentation of the Theotokos and Christmas. So it's actually a bit more than a month, so not just on Nativity.

no the odes are always chanted. this hymn is the hirmos of the first ode, second ode, and so on. Christ is born glorify him is the opening verse of the hirmos of the first ode. =]

"XC is born glorify him" is from the first ode. the ninth ode is the Megalynarion which on feast days is usually "magnify oh my soul"

I am bit confused. On the feast of nativity all the verses of each ode are read and then the first verse of each ode are chanted.? which is what ode?
