Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113 President Bob Kinnear announced today that the union will strike at 4 a.m. Monday unless an agreement with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is reached.

The first major sticking point in contract negotiations was the amount of compensation TTC workers get if they're injured on the job. Kinnear noted that city employees get 100 percent of their pay while absent due to an injury while transit workers get 75 percent.

"We're also second-class when it comes to health care benefits. City workers and their families are treated far better in areas such as dental care, optical and pensions. These gaps are not being seriously addressed by TTC management and so it remains - city workers first-class, TTC workers second-class," he said.

The labor leader also noted that TTC operators are paid less than their suburban counterparts, despite the fact that those operating subways, buses and streetcars in Toronto face many more challenges on the job.

  • What the hell is going on with TTC drivers on Maybrook Drive in Scarborough? Talk about dog fucking! ALWAYS some fat lazy turd of a driver parked forever there doing NOTHING!

  • Union = Communism.

  • ompletely normal in South Korea, where the average employee works 2,357 hours per year--that's six-and-a-half hours for every single day of their life. According to a 2008 ranking by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, South Koreans work the longest hours per year

  • What if Toronto TTC no-warning-strike on these days: 1) Christmas Parade Day. 2) National / Provincial or City election Days. 3) Toronto is hosting Olympic Games, on the opening Ceremony Day. 4) Blue Jays, Maple Leafs or Raptors finale days. 5) Toronto is hosting some important International Convention Days. 6) St. Patrick Day. 7) July 1St, Canada Day..... Please act now, TTC is an essential service. TTC union workers don't like the idea, go and find other jobs. OR STRIKE AGAIN.
  • It's time to open competition let create a new Transit system allow to compete with them to end the monopoly.

We all sick of being blackmail, held as hostage. Time to end socialist corporation era.

  • FUK u Old retarted douchbags!!!! Ill drive ur stupid trains for half the pay bitches! u hungry son of a bitches!

  • Don't you just want to bitch slap the douche bag (Bob Kinnear) and his members?

  • TTC workers say that they have been in their jobs for long years. During the last 8 years I got laid off seven times for reasons beyond my control. When I lost a job I had nobody to go on strike to defend me. Why not the TTC workers are also given a chance to look for new work after enjoying hourly rates over $25 when some are forced to work for $7.

  • TTC workers say that they are getting assaulted by unruly elements in the society? Aren't others in this country run the same risk? Aren't at least some of those incidents are caused by the 'pride' the TTC workers display on duty?

  • LMAO strike affective saturday..

without the 48 house notice!!! what jerks...
