John Parkinson was born into a catholic farming family in 1567 and died at the age of 83 in 1650, in-between becoming a pioneer of his age; his passion for plants took him from obscurity to fame as Britains first Royal herbalist, he was apothecary to James I and botanist to Charles I, with a lot of religious and political intrigue in-between. For the full story about this interesting man and his life in herbs, I would heartily recommend you read Annas book Natures Alchemist.
