FareCompare's Elf demonstrates how to use the "Knee Defender" on an airline seat, so the guy in front of you can't recline. Grumpy Santa is not amused. Neither is the flight attendant.

  • Not half as painful as having your knees assaulted for hours on end.

The reason it winds me up so much is that the person in front knows full well how irritating and potentially painful it can be for the person behind, yet they do it anyway. It's just not socially concious behaviour.

I genuinely believe that economy should not have reclinable seats coz there just isn't room. If you want to recline, don't buy a seat in cattle-class imo.

Merry Christmas by the way! ;o)

  • that flight attendant is awesome!

  • @lastwhitewoman Why not sleep on the plane? If everyone reclines and sleeps there's no problem. If you want more space, buy a more expensive ticket. Same goes to your movie example: if you want silence, watch a DVD at home. A coach seat reclines and a movie theater sells food.

  • @travelsonic Yes. It is rude to use a "seat function" to crush the knees of the person behind you.

  • ". It's incredibly rude & self indulgent to do that (recline)."

So it is rude to use a seat function the airline intended for you to have/use [as opposed to HOW you use it], and not rude to do all those things, like potentially getting them sick just because they recline?

    Hypocrite. The shoe fits.

  • Whoever thought of this is a genius. I had someone moved to the back because for 30 minutes it was a constant push push push into my knees trying to get the chair to recline. I politely asked him to stop; he yelled at me and called the stewardess. I told the stewardess there is no place I can put my knees. I told her another outburst from him and I'd press charges. That ended that!

  • In movie theaters, there are some people who think they went there to EAT and MUST rattle their fist around in a popcorn tub & rattle paper while other paying customers are trying to watch a movie. There are some passengers who use the flight to schedule their SLEEP time, even if in someone else's lap. COUGH ON 'EM or something OR get knee defenders. It's incredibly rude & self indulgent to do that (recline).

  • Airlines & passengers don't realize that they don't have the room to recline without invading someone else's allotted "space". They won't give us more leg room to avoid the problem & I imagine they wouldn't relish a rash of lawsuits regarding assaults on passengers in the rear & injuries to knees. continued...

  • You're right. In fact I might adopt that as New Year's Resolution. This year I shall recline, but I will ask first :o)
