Burma hasn't had a US Secretary of State visit the country for more than 50 years. Hillary Clinton's trip to the country is a sign of positive change, setting a stage for political and economic development between the two nations. With possible stronger future engagement, people anticipate reform in the once isolated country.

  • Myanmar has 8 major national races with 135 ethnic groups. 70% of the population is “Bamar”. British renamed our country name to “Burma” since Bamar were the majority. One of the first known references to 'Myanmar' in a cave temple built in the Bagan (AD 1190). Refusing to call a nation by its proper official name may seem insignificant to some but generates resentment among a very high majority of the Myanmar population. Call our country "Myanmar". Only British subjects call "Burma".

  • What MM should do is learn from America & apply that knowledge to improve the country - education system, transportation system, economic system, communication system, etc. There's nothing wrong with learning things from the most efficient country (America) in the world. I think it's ignorant to isolate ourselves because of the fear of being taken over by another nation. History repeats itself only because people don't learn from them. This is why we need educated leaders who truly cares for MM.

  • If Hilary Clinton hadn't visited Myanmar(MM) I'm sure MM political leaders will further delay the movement towards democracy. I'm not a pro-west but I do believe that MM political leaders need a push, and America just happens to be the nation in the position to do that. No other nation in the world will do what they do, which is promote human right laws & improve lifestyle in 3rd world countries. I'm not saying Myanmar should rely on America or become subordinates. Neither of these should happen

  • @UTunLin These exiled journalists are so pro-west that they have forgotten or ignorant of the imperialist invasion which damaged Myanmar in the 19 + 20th century. They are not well educated nor even free thinking journalists.
