Jesus ! This old chestnut had Jimi Hendrix met Dominoes era Clapton we wouldn't be having this discussion now, Clapton embodies something that is beyond Hendrix and his Acid infused rifferey and that is blues in the soul from being through hardship and trials Jimi's legacy has got fat off the carrion of could have been's and to be honest except 5 or 6 strokes of live genius and Electric Ladyland he's a player I could have lived without.

@jgg87 Why nuts? Nuts is thinking this guy is some genius and his music is any good.

@pppppatrikkkkk One word for what you wrote: NUTS!

I always knew who they were but I never listened to them but then one night I was high I looked up " good songs to listen to while stoned" and The Beatles - I am the Walrus was #1 my favorite song of all time.

As far as McCartney, I really don't understand the mania of the Beatles then or now. They were big, but I don't even listen to their music, it holds no interest for me whatsoever. Even Lennon I don't really like, to me the whole Beatles thing (although important in rock/pop history) bears little meaning for me personally. McCartney always seems so pompous and I never remember any line or song quality from him. If it weren't for the phenomenon called 'Beatles' no one would listen to him now.

Unique melodies such as in May This Be Love and other songs of beauty, you cannot fake that, there is magic in that music that cannot be explained. Clapton has always been kind of mute on the matter of Jimi. Expressing praise here and there, yes, but my thinking is he was utterly shocked by Jimi and he lost a certain standing he evidently liked having back then. Beck has been quite a bit more honest about Jimi and the effect he had on them at the time.

Perfect thing to say for Jimi, if he did say it. Clapton more of technical, perfectionist type guy and player, whereas Jimi was the storm of music himself. Jimi was not mean like putting Clapton down or anything, but the reality is Jimi was way over Clapton's head and still is. If you connect your passion, spirit and intelligence straight to your guitar that is what Jimi did. It's not a trick, you can really feel his soul in some of the songs, like directly translated by his guitar.

@MsReignman hendrix did it as a gesture to clapton, not because he needed his guitar tuned dumbass
thats sounds like a lie. jimi was way too proficiant a guitarist to need anyone to tune his instrument u can see him do it in countless times during songs how he did it effortlessly. i think paul is such friends with clapton that he downplays jimi's genius to give his friend props

@MsReignman I know, he was an amazing guitarist, I have seen him tune his guitar. As much as I love both Paul McCartny and Eric Clapton, it's pretty obvious that Jimi Hendrix was a much better guitarist. I think that he was doing it just to be playful, I could see him doing that.
