Team Titanium Robotics introduces "TITAN", our Guitar Hero Robot. TITAN uses a common webcam and advanced programming to do vision recognition of the notes on the screen in real time. He was a summer project for FIRST Robotics Team #1986, from Lee's Summit West High School in Lee's Summit, MO. See TITAN play another song at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mWHVvKb1hM

  • Not sure what you are thinking of with "charging time." The solenoid response is pretty much instantaneous as soon as it sees voltage, no charging delay. Solenoids are electromagnets, not capacitors. There is surely a physical delay of a few milliseconds for the triggering to take place, but that is tuned in to our overall delay from the sight line to the play line. These are continuous duty solenoids, meaning they can be energized continuously without overheating.

  • Are the actuators solenoid or pneumatic?

  • @TheSourabhify 12V solenoids.

  • I remember titan. I do recall beating him on more than one occasion in Denver, but still an awesome project. I expect to see something equally awesome come next year.

  • @TSPx4 Sorry we won't be in Denver this year, but we do have another project up our sleeves.

  • Its a robot for fun. Chill.

  • This is one of the things that makes me proud to be in FIRST!

  • Pretty sweeet. I wish my team did something like this.

  • Another question (thanks for answering these by the way! :D): I read that your robot was pretty accurate for the expert level - that's impressive stuff. But don't solenoid actuators have a pretty immense charging time? What was your charging time like? Or did you use some sort of continuous duty system? And if there was a charging time, how did you manage to play notes continuously... in certain cases, aren't there like... 10 notes in a row or so before a pause on each key?

  • well done
