yes, there is a setting called "default mouse pointer" which turns the hydra into a mouse for general usage and browsing.
it is also possible to create custom settings.

can the hyrdra be used for general computer tasks? like would i be able to browse the internet using the hyrdra instead of the mouse? at first i just thought it would be usable in games that support it but this makes me wonder

it has full mapping capability in 3 dimensions, so with enough ingenuity, you can do pretty much anything with music software. What you're talking about is a good idea and could probably be done.

This is very, very interesting. I presume, theoretically, Sixense can be linked with Sonar/Cubase and operated like a conductor's baton to manage dynamics of a score written in midi, can't it?
