On September 3, 2010 Interior Secretary Ken Salazar completed a "48 hour whirlwind tour" of Alaska with a news conference in Anchorage. A DOI Information Officer asked reporters to step out the back door before the conference began to witness "an event" (See other video entitled "Ken Salazar Environmental RALLY..."). Gathered in the back parking lot were several dozen environmentalists with signs lauding Salazar for closing down Bristol Bay to oil and gas leasing. After reporters duly covered the enviros chanting, "Thank you, Secretary Salazar, for saving Bristol Bay," they followed him into the conference room. He was accompanied by Deputy Secretary, David Hayes, former chairman of the Board of the Environmental Law Institute, Senior Fellow for the World Wildlife Fund and Vice-Chair of the Board of American Rivers. Virtually all decisions by DOI affecting Alaska over the past 2.5 years have been completely aligned with environmental extremists' positions and produced obstacles to oil and gas exploration and development.
These decisions have been consistently and demonstrably not science based, but agenda based. The decisions have involved ANWR, OCS, NPR-A, ESA and reduced overall American employment, wealth production and economic recovery while outsourcing jobs, wealth and America's standard of living to other countries. While this is a very poor quality video of the media conference following the enviro rally, the sound quality is very good. In it you will hear Salazar feign a focus on developing the country's natural resources while taking every possible step to avoid that development. You will hear him contradict his BOEMRE Director Bromwich's earlier assertion that no de facto or actual drilling moratorium applied to Alaska (http://tinyurl.com/3eefl4z). -dh
