MORTAL COIL - DIRECTOR'S CUT

Ash is a young man, 22, who doesn't fully understand the world due to his age. His Dad is an animal tester who has done his job within the confines of the law, however in the interest of scientific discovery he steps over the line very briefly. His colleagues notice this and report him because they don't want the company to gain a reputation for illegal animal testing. An internal investigation takes place in which pages and pages of evidence are collected. The investigation finishes but the corporation chooses not to release their findings, instead they turn the evidence over to the police. This suggests that Ash's father is in trouble.
Ash over hears his parents arguing about this and risks his wellbeing to break into the offices to destroy the evidence so that his Dad is left off the hook. At this point the security guard, who's acting super macho for his girlfriend, notices something bad is going on while making his rounds in the building. In an effort to show off his physical ability he chases and hunts down Jake for the files. The guard takes his job far too seriously and calls the police from his phone while chasing Ash. The guard begins to direct the sequence while police and special forces instruct him not to intervene but he doesn't listen. In a series of slow motion shots we see Jake being chased down in a number of interesting ways. In a busy street populated with late night shoppers the guard picks up a random person's umbrella and throws it at Jake. It narrowly misses him and cracks some glass in a nearby window.
Ash manages to get away on a train and gets back home but the security guard has managed to hitch on the back of the train, keeping himself out of sight so that he can surprise Ash instead of chasing him down which has proved useless.
A very suspenseful scene in Ash's house takes place in which Ash is lying in bed thinking everything has gone all right but is still worried about the guard. He hears some strange noises such as crackling from the guard's walkie-talkie.
Next to him the guard is standing there over bearing next to his bed. The guard lifts the bed over making a huge crashing noise, the parents enter and a fight between the company colleagues ensues in which the wife is confused mortified and worried.
The fight continues until the guard threatens the mother in which the father steps his game up to protect her. He gets knocked over, onto the floor and we don't see what happens. We hear a loud gun shot. We don't know who's been shot.
Then... a summer's morning and the mother is pacing towards a gravestone holding a bouquet of lilies. Again, we don't know who's grave this is until... the Dad enters frame.
Their dialogue explains how the death of their sun has brought them back to reality and away from their constant arguments. They ironically make peace with each other after the death of their son, who was trying to save them.
