This is the introduction sequence to a very intriguing video game. It is simply called "Creatures", and it runs very differently from almost anything you'll ever see. In it, you hatch a creature, called a "norn", and proceed to help it grow, learn, and live. Eventually, if you care for your norns right, they can propagate and populate the world, called "Albia". THe closest thing I have ever seen to this is Spore, but this game is still completly different. The norns are semi-autonomous, and you cannot control them. They learn as they grow older, and you can actually train them. Not only that, but the games were programmed to use some basic genetics, so every norn is unique. (And, if you have the right tools, you can do all sorts of weird stuff, like making them blue)

  • wow, reminds me of Myst

  • @Piccadillyo The intro here is a bit misleading, to be honest. The game isn't really anything like Myst. In fact, the game takes place on a 2D sidescrolling world that loops when you go far enough around it. (Most of the background is actually photos of this really neat model someone built for the company) As for the gameplay, you're raising, teaching, and breeding these little creatures called Norns.

  • butterfly effect

  • @dbin42 So true. Literal as that may be, this game is rather unpredictable, to say the least.

  • @xSakijix

Look up Creatures 4 here on youtube. it is indeed coming out.

Also I'm very much looking forward to Grandroids.

  • @LilDruid There won't be a Creatures 4 - since the company (Creature Labs) intended to exploit the idea and mastermind of the porject (Steve Grand), for commercial purposes.

He left the company in 1999.

He's working on new stuff though, his current project is called "Grandroids" and are supposed to be the first artificial intelligences which can imagine or dream.

The Norns in Creatures could only react to events, but not think for themselves.

If it succeeds it surely will be a breaktrough.

  • I only hope to Hand that, after all these years, they don't screw up with Creatures 4...

  • @LegoTeletubbie No. 3D would ruin the concept.

  • They should make Creatures 4 in 3D.Like That giant ship in C3 after 2000 years crashed on other planet.

  • Rofl, I never got this intro to work when I used to play this game. First time seeing it. XD

  • This was one of the first pc games i ever played. And you know what, probably the best one i ever played. Sadly i dont have the game anymore but i'll always have fond memories of the game.

  • i think i liked this so much when i was about 12 ,just because of the sheer imagination

  • Still got the original game. I'm a little shocked it still works mostly perfect on Vista. Even shows up in the Vista games list complete with ESRB rating.
