Not I is a twenty-minute dramatic monologue written in 1972 (March 20 to April 1) by Samuel Beckett, translated as Pas Moi; premiere at the "Samuel Beckett Festival" by the Repertory Theater of Lincoln Center, New York (22 November 1972), directed by Alan Schneider, with Jessica Tandy (Mouth) and Henderson Forsythe (Auditor). --Wikipedia

I do not own the copyright to this video, but I have uploaded it here so that a broad and interested audience may first be introduced to the works of Samuel Beckett. If the owner of the copyright should wish it to be taken day, they need only say the word.

However, if you enjoyed this video or any of the others I've uploaded from this collection, please consider buying the DVDs yourself (a must have for any fan of Beckett's work) at http://www.beckettonfilm.com/ .

  • For me it's the changing of camera angles that ruins it for me. this page has at least one suggestion for the '73 version. the lack of angle changes traps the viewer, not allowing them the luxury of a moving camera angle to break the heavy mood. this version offers the audience relief. and the darkness of the '73 Mouth really made it just a mouth, not a mouth on a face on a body, just a mouth alone in the darkness. the affect was frightening, which this version does not accomplish as well.

  • @LongIslandLongIsland I'm surprised there was any doubt from either of you. You can see it's her at the beginning, and failing that her name is at the top of the credits at the end for a minute and a half! :)

  • The big lips reminds me...the annoying orange!

  • This... Is beautiful. This is a wonderful look in the almost insane ravings of a madwoman. Bravo.

  • this interpretation of Not I is certainly a failure but it has nothing to do with the actress's american accent

  • I hate Julianne Moore.

This is killed by an American accent

  • @ebahlin I looked it up. You're right.

  • I think the "mouth" actor is Julianne Moore.
