Really? That's an interesting interpretation and you may be right. Mine is a bit more unconventional and I accept it because of Pelican's themes regarding nature and less about history. Either way, that's the beauty of the music, that you can imagine different topics in your head with such an incredible soundtrack!

Isn't it referencing General William Tecumseh Sherman's March to the Sea during the Civil War?
I thought this really sounded like an army gearing up and laying waste to everything in their path.

Someone told me that 'March to the Sea' was a song about the evolutionary march of animals, specifically the march of land mammals into the ocean, from whence they evolved into modern whales, etc. I wouldn't be surprised because these guys seem intelligent and well-read and the song bears all the drama and epic sound of such a magnificent story as the story of animal and human evolution.

@oberon61801 Why did they hate ?

Ever heard Irepress? Might be better than Pelican, in my opinion... however, they're probably not as good as Russian Circles.
-
ok, Russian Circles and Pelican are tied for the best. the pelican sludge is intense, but the drums in circles are awesome. explosions in the sky is right up there, but not quite the same.

I love this band. they are glorious.

i spoke to Trevor a few months back and he told me that the tour they did with Opeth was by far the one theyve hated the most.
Holy shit, was that when they came with Opeth? If so I was at that concert but didn't know them back then.
