Someone please explain to the conductor and the tuba player that he does NOT have the melody during the entire song. They both need to listen to this recording and make some changes.

It's all about bell angles. The tuba probably would have sounded fine from the center of the auditorium.

You must listen to bach's fugue à la gigue arranged by gustav holst, it's really nice.

I'm not a musician. I am a organist.

But my wife and I support our Colorado Symphony. If they owned the music, they may play it more often - like at outdoor concerts, etc.

Would love to read the score.

Seems like every player has a solo somewhere in the work.

There is also organ in the finale bars.

But often it is left out if there is no organ in the hall.

My wife and I also love J.S. Bach's "Gigue" fugue, performed by E. Power Biggs.

You will probably enjoy it, too.

Yes! Wonderful work.

But it is especially vulnerable to notes being out of tune.

Everyone must be extra careful with intonation in this work.

I have considered buying this for the Colorado Symphony.

It was difficult to play the fugue because of its structure and his armony.. some notes sounded wrong but in reality they were not.

I think I've never played a fugue before that concet :-).

The conductor comes from Texas and he brought with him the piece. I guess Polka and fugue is famous in the States.. in Italy it is not so common to ear it. Anyway it's a beautiful piece isn't it?

Such a joyful celebration with everyone having a solo. Melodic, rhythmic fugue subject, too.

Reminded me of Max Reger, who wrote such complicated organ works, especially his fugues.

Later discovered that Jarimor Weinberger studied with Reger!

the camcorder was near the tuba player, that's the reason why we listen it so much.

I was playing the clarinet in this video and I can tell you that it didn't sound like this in reality :-)

Why is only Left speaker sounding?

Maybe the absence of the other channel brings out the tuba.

Is the tubalso too prominent because of proximity to the camcorder?

Does this work have a harp?

Or was it added for this band arrangement?

Fugue should be the same tempo as the end of the Polka.

Thanks for posting Weinberger's masterpiece! Schwanda is glorious music, is it not? Especially the close of the beautiful fugue!
