etvFutures - Commodities: Crude oil, distillates, natural gas, gold. JMTG's Mound with his commodities outlook for the week ahead. NYMEX crude oil futures hit another record high above $108/brl. COMEX gold settled lower at $972/oz.
Stock Market goes up, crude oil price goes up. We better hope the Stock Market doesn't climb to high or crude will be as high as last year and most American's don't own enough stock to afford the coming gas bills.
"The lesson of history is that you do not get a sustained economic recovery as long as the financial system is in crisis," Bernanke said "Lehman proved that you cannot let a large internationally active firm fail in the middle of a financial crisis."
In times of excess supply, prices drop sharply and can even temporarily fall below production costs as suppliers take anything they can get from the market. This situation rarely lasts all that long, however, because if companies are unprofitable, they will either lower supply or exit the industry.
Conversely, in times where supply is low and there is excess demand, commodity prices can skyrocket. This is because many commodities are necessary goods that the marketplace cannot go without.
