A subspecie of the zebra spider. Salticus scenicus is a common household jumping spider. Like other jumping spiders, it does not build a web. It uses its four pairs of large eyes to locate prey and its jumping ability to pounce and capture it. Zebra spiders are often noted for their 'curiosity' when observed by humans; many seem aware of their audience and seem to respond to observation by raising their heads and studying the observer. With over 5,000 subspecies the jumping spider is the largest family of spiders in the north american arachnid world.

  • Me and my friend found a little zebraspider today, and we fell in love. It's so cute and quite charming actually. We watched it for one hour without losing interest.

    They are amazing!

  • It's a great time of year to walk through a field very slowly observing what you see and hear. TY for your nice comment and sharing your interest.

  • awesome video and awesome spider!

  • Hello to you in the Netherlands and thank you for your nice comment. If you like amateur nature videos from around the world check out the youtube group - natureheads.

  • Hmm, this looks hairier than the UK version I've got on video. Your shots are much closer, but even so... I wonder if this is truly the same species? (Or perhaps we have a different subspecies?)

  • I agree. I did some more research. This must be one of the over 5,000 subspecies. I've noted this in the title and description now.

    Thank you for your help.

The NatureHeads Group is very cool.

  • The little thing he was doing with his front legs or whatever they were was pretty cute and funny! :)

  • That's probably the only cute spider I've seen lol :3

  • Those are my only favorite spiders because not only are they cute, but they really don't even bite. I've held them at my grandma's house and they're so fun!!!

  • That does not look like a zebra spider to me. A zebra spider has 2 pyramid like pics on its back as well as white stripes and not to mention 2 big eyeballs. @_@' lol

  • @MrKaratedude24 your default position on spiders should be to assume they're not poisonous, unless you know there are dangerous ones in your area. You can literally count the number of dangerous spider species on your fingers.

  • 0:44 SUPAMAN!!!!

btw he likes to go "nom nom nom nom nom"

  • I saw a zebra spider today. now it's squished on the outside of my house

  • @MrKaratedude24 Just don't grab it and you'll be OK. Let it walk up on your hand volantarily. Some are skittish, so you might have to coax it to walk up on your hand if you want to hold one.

  • @SharkRetriver i think it is once or twice a week

  • @bookworm1960 your mother must be allergic themost ive heard it can do is cause a tiny bit if itching and stinging
