Fight for the cure is an annual event in Ottawa that raises money for cancer research. The event features "white collar" boxing matches where business leaders in Ottawa are paired up against a competitor from within their respective business communities. Once chosen, these individuals train with professionals for 4-5 months at a boxing gym in preparation for the event.
Over the past 4 years this annual event has raised more than $200,000 for cancer research, prevention and support. The event was sold out last night.
Brian Brady is a friend of mine whom I've recently reconnected with through VBall in Ottawa. Over the past 4-5 months he lost a bit of weight and put on some muscle in preparation for the event. It has been fun to see him prepare over the past months. Prior to Brian's match there were some amusing fights that seemed unintentionally comical. But, as you can see in this match, this was a seriously good bout, with both guys showing some great athleticism.
After the fight both fighters received a standing ovation, the first one of the night.
Cheers to Brian and his competitor Mark for taking time from their busy lives to train and do so well in an event that is really meaningful to those that have been affected by cancer in the past and for those that will be affected by it in the future.
Well done Brian, great fight ! think you could have maybe fitted a wee saltire on your shorts. congrats
