KOF Klub: King Of Fighters 99: Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami

Right. Welcome to the KOF Klub, a small segment dedicated to King Of Fighters.

Today: King Of Fighters 99 will be looked at, with one secret of the game dissected. In other words: The "secret" characters: Kyo "LOL CLONE BAIT" Kusanagi and Iori "MY ASS IS BLEEDING MUST KILL KYO RAARGH" Yagami.

If you may remember at the end of King Of Fighters 97, Iori grabs Orochi by the neck, Kyo nails them both with a Falcon Punch and both Iori and Kyo dissapear, seemingly having performed the usual heroic sacrifices. Chizuru handled the rest and everyone had thought that both men had died...except Benimaru and Daimon, who reckoned that Kyo would do a Ryu and care only for fighting. No-one spared a thought for poor Iori. Good thing Kyo's MILES cooler than Ryu.

And then...lo and behold: King Of Fighters 99 comes along. K' is the hero, NESTS are the bad guys and are generally doing nasty stuff. And from the outset, people think that Kyo turned out to be Not Quite Dead, thanks in part to Kyo-1 and Kyo-2. BAsically Kyo split in two. Kyo-1 had Kyo's 94 moveset and Repressed Serpent, Kyo-2 had the 96 moveset with Big F***ing Flame Pillar of DOOM Combo. Were they both Kyo, same story, but with differnet moveset?

Once the game is clear and Krizalid was beat, WHATS THIS? ANOTHER Kyo? This time in a totally different outfit than we remember him. As it turns out, THIS chappy is the REAL DEAL, and Kyo-1 and Kyo-2 were dirty stinking clones! Sounds like a bad comic book plot (COUGHCOUGHSPIDERMANCOUGHCOUGHCLONESAGACOGUHCOUGH)

AND as it turns out, Iori Yagami turned out to be Not Quite Dead as well! Yes, you're probably bawling "BUT WHAT ABOUT 98?! WHERE DOES 98 COME IN?!" Well, listen here, chap. 98 was non-canon. There, all fixed. :D

so anyway, Kyo and Iori ARE playable in 99. It however involves unlocking them. Yes, even in the arcade, you have to unlock a cheat code to use them both. So how do you get these guys? Here's how it goes. It's hard ot pull off, though.

If you want Kyo: Start Game, go to Roulette and let it pick your teams. Out of Benimaru, K', Maxima, Whip, the Kyo Clones and Shingo, hope it picks AT LEAST THREE of them. Then, win a battle and on the winquote screen, a code saying "KYO" and a set of directions. Congrats, you can now use that code, and the Sun symbol becomes our Man from Japan. Just enter hte code on the character select screen, holding Start while highlighting Roulette

For Iori: Same as before, but now it must pick at least three from these: Athena, that loser Bao, Kasumi, Leona, Kim Kaphwan, Jhun Hoon or Xiangfuc- I mean Xiangfei. Win a fight with at least three of any of these. Winqote screen, a code saying "IORI" and a set of directions apppear. Now you can use Light's As-yet-unconfirmed distant Relative. As before, hold Start, hightlight Roulette, put code in, bish bash bosh. The Moon symbol turns into our mate with the surname that sounds funny when reversed.

Of course, the whole shock of them being not quite dead is spoiled in the intro (Kawasaki: D'OH!) and on the Neogeo Home cart, where htey are usable in the first place. Yes, usable on the home versions, must be unlocked on the Arcade. It's unfair. :(

So anywayz, here's the vid showing both their movesets. Yes, they can be used as Strikers as well. I might put up their endings soon. so, thats enough of my rambling, enjoy enlightenment.

don't know about that bro... ryu is the man, and the only snk hero that's iconic as him is terry.

the video is quite good though. kyo got angrier that year, cause nests did dirty things to him while he was unconscious... poor kid got traumatized and even lost his ability to perform the flame pillar dm.

Yeah, its a shame cos Big Fucken Flame Pillar of Doom was awesome and this Bend-Over thing was boring. in 2000 though, he got something a little nicer....how nice? Let's just say it was the attack that blew up part of a galaxy/
