The campaign titled 'Zita' has been produced by the Cancer Council WA and features Zita Roberts, a 37-year-old mother of three children who is in the final stages of dying from lung cancer caused by smoking.
In the executions Zita talks directly to camera describing her feelings and emotions about being diagnosed with lung cancer, her family and what the future holds for those she will leave behind. Her powerful and emotional story highlights the impact smoking can have on not only the smoker but loved ones as well, with most of Zita's discussion surrounding her three children, Alicia, Mika and Jed, husband Chris and her parents.
The campaign will air on metro and regional television in Victoria from April 20 until May 31.
This commercial made me quit smoking. My son said "mama, who's going to take care of me if you die?" after seeing this ad. I threw away my smokes the next day. That was 5 years ago. Thank you Zita!

It has been 1 week today since I lit up. I saw your campaign a couple years ago before I had children. Recently they relaunched your campaign I now have a son and daughter. Zita thanks. You have been my inspiration to want to quit smoking and live for my children. I just wish you had been given the same chance I have.

Thank you for posting this. This is a strong departure from the previous line of antismoking adverts used in Australia. Research indicated that the leaving love ones behind (children) was one of the strongest motivation to quit. Personally I would like them to ban smoking out right, but obviously lead to the question of where do you stop e.g. alcohol. In my opinion it's hard to justify the +ves of smoking, it's addictive, kills you slowly and costly.
