Performed by Judy, with Count Basie on the organ,
Episode 2 of "The Judy Garland Show," taped July
7, 1963.
Judy & Count Basie had a wonderful Jazz chemistry together.

Words by Andy Razaf, music by Eubie Blake, 1930

Waking skies
at sunrise
Every sunset too
Seems to be
bringing me
Memories of you
Here and there
every where
Scenes that we once knew
And they all
just recall
Memories of you
How I wish I could forget those
happy yesteryears
That have left a rosary of tears
Your face beams
in my dreams
Spite of all I do
Everything
seems to bring
Memories of you

  • This is exquisite; her phrasing, nuances of emotion and emotional intelligence are at their peek in this clip. Pay particular attention to the note between 0.25-0.30, it is the epitomy of sweetness - as is her spontaneously drawing up her hands to her chin, like a child might who is seeking affection. It's all there in Judy's performances - she lays her soul bare. It is a real privilege watching and listening to her - I still feel the same awe as if she were alive today. She is also timeless.

  • I learnt so many songs thanks to my darling Judy and this is one of them. The Nelson Riddle recordings also were splendid of this beautiful American Classic. All jazz men love this tune.

    We love you Judy.

  • I'd never heard this before. Makes me regret even more that Judy did not make more recordings with the likes of Count Basie and his orchestra.

  • lovely

  • @judyross28 she was 41 at this time.

  • @18sux29rox she dont look anywhere near her 50s , i take it u wear glasses, judy looks absolutley stunning here

  • Beautiful judy - Basie's organ was fabulous.

  • She looked older then she really was. If i didnt know i wouldve guessed mid 50's.

  • @kyproula88 There used to be, but not any more, it seems! Hopefully someone will upload it soon for you to enjoy. :o)

  • @AlbyFC Is there an uploaded version of that?

  • @hirchik I couldn't agree more. This is absoutely exquisite. This was a fantastic episode for melancholy ballads. Her rendition of A Cottage for Sale has been imprinted in my retina, ears and heart since I first watched it.
