This 'ol girl has undergone an extensive restoration with all new strings, hammers, punching, and back rail felts. I also had to replace all of the capstans due to corrosion. The finish was left original as well as the full-boat ivory/ebony keyboard. This pretty girl has not one missing tooth; with every pre-ban ivory key in perfect original condition.

  • German Steinways for my money are better than the American ones. They have a more rounded sound & the treble is not so brittle in tone.

  • @dogsbody49 I would agree with you. I think it's the casting of the harp that makes them so much better.

  • here in my town there are a steinway 110 years old =) perfect condition

  • @pianistinblues They are worth keeping alive!

  • very nice sounding piano, I do hear however that they are very difficult to tune...sort of sounds somewhat like a harpsichord.

  • @virgiijauregui They are somewhat "tinny", and even with new hammers this girl is very much so. It's due to the hammer location being close to the end of the strings. As the hammers age, and get hard, it gets much worse.

i don't agree. what people call "balanced" in the hamburg's register, i find "flat". with the new york, each register has its unique characteristics. you can pound the bass, and you have a bird-like treble in the soprano register. plus, you can voice a new york more easily to the top range.

  • a steinway is forever..

  • The Steinway sounds wonderful. Love the warm deep tones, just incredible.

  • very good!
