Up and coming tenor Ta'u Pupu'a sings E Lucevan Le Stelle from Puccini's Tosca. In my opinion, he is one of the best recent tenors and is an inspiration to me as a Polynesian studying opera. Last I heard he was taking a break from his career to study at Julliard.

Enjoy!

  • Why the hell did you tag Bocelli? This guy's infinitely better than the former. Yes, he will need a stage name for sure...I first heard of him about a year ago from a few friends and I was amazed at what I heard after looking into some of his work. But I couldn't remember his name! Singing's good, voice is good, diction is not so good and Italian is not so good. Can be worked on. Great voice, best I've heard in a long time as I said in your other post.

  • I tagged him so the video would pop up if they searched for him. Lol. Thanks for the comment! He really is an inspiration for me.

  • Absolutely stunning. WHAT A VOICE!!!!! This young man is sure to be a huge star. I've not heard such a clear, effortless, and huge sound in any other young tenor singing today.

  • Thank goodness! I thought no one was watching. And all I got from anyone else was VinyltoVideo's "meh". Thanks for your appreciation of this artist! :)

  • malie hiva pea malo hono fai! 'ofa atu.

  • And he used to be an NFL football player

  • Not only is Tau a fantastic singer, he is a very sweet person. I'm so proud to say I "knew him when". I'm thrilled for his success, and I am rooting for him. He has a unique life story, and it just goes to show that if you have talent, and desire, combined with hard work and perserverance, you really can do anything!

  • I just heard about him on NPR yesterday. He's a Tanglewood fellow thus summer and performing the role of Bacchus in Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos at Tanglewood this week. The other great thing is that Dame Kiri TeKanawa (also Polynesian) has really been his champion and "sponsor". If not for her, we may never had heard of him!

  • @GermanOperaSinger: Nix on the stage name. I have no doubt he is proud of his Polynesian heritage. I always think of what actor Ioan Gruffudd said when his agent suggested he change his name because it appeared unpronounceable: "They can say 'Schwarzeneggar' can't they?"

  • Superb. A really moving interpretation of this somewhat hackneyed solo. This young man is going to be one of the greats.

  • DAMN!! Lovin this!! GREAT STRENGTH behind this very operatic voice!! way to represent!! what a BIG INSPIRATION!!! imma work harder!!!

  • I love it. I could take him home with me!
