This is the part #11 of a concert that Rich Mullins did in Lufkin, Texas. Some excerpts from this concert made it to the homeless man video also available on You Tube.

This was the last concert tour that he did before he passed on.

Edit: 7/11/2007

I responded to an email that I received, but after thinking about it, I decided that everyone should read it to know where things are at. Thank you everyone for your patience and I apologize for dropping the ball on this one. I will pick it up again soon.

I was not at the concert there, but I did actually go to a later one. This concert (on you tube) was taped about 8 weeks before he died I think and I went to a concert 2 weeks later in Northville, Michigan. Actually, he only performed once more in Chicago and then he was no longer with us.

I was struck by how tired Rich looked even before he said something. By the time I saw him, he wasn't singing as much and the other guys were moving in closer to help pick up the slack. His voice was a bit scratchy and haggard. He looked more beaten than I had ever seen him.

I was able to see him about a half a dozen times throughout the years and it was neat to watch the transition of his concerts. He wasn't a great musician who talked about Jesus; he was someone who was willing to be used by God who happened to be a musician.

I hope to post the last part of the concert in the next few weeks. Video transition takes a lot of space and I was just able to get more hard drive space to accomplish this. Because this isn't the only project have on my computer, other things take a bit more precedence.

If you ever get a chance, listen to a song by Mitch McVicker called
"New Mexico." It was the last song Rich performed on and how poetic to "wrap it up," if you will.

As always, Be God's,
Mark

  • @martinmertens - Hi! I didn't know there were responses, i was looking for one of Mitch McVicker's songs and ended up back here. My hand is in pretty bad shape, i'll page back to see if i can catch up on the rest of this! :)

  • I wish my haggard look were from living for Christ my entire life; however, it is not. But. . . I know my Redeemer lives and I am forgiven. Are we all called to live like Rich ? I do not know, but I know Who does. . . ask Him and be willing to go where ever He leads - the journey will be awesome if we are willing to follow Him step by step all of our days!

May Christ live deeply in your heart where the good soil is, so that your Faith will not be uprooted by the storms of life.

If you watch all these concert videos it's in here, just watched all of them, don't remeber which one. Did U ever find it? Did your hand heal?

  • In tears.

RIP - Rich Mullins. You are seriously missed here on the big blue ball.

Your spirit lives through many that you have influenced over the years.

    Part 5, 8:20 into it

Hope your hand is doing better....

  • True...we are all called to live the gospel radically, and Jesus spits out the lukewarm. But, it's also worth pointing out that part of *why* Francis was able to embrace such radical poverty is because he had no family to support - he was celibate, like Rich Mullins, like Jesus. But most of us are called by God to be married and raise families, so I think that has a lot to do with not living this lifestyle. Parents aren't 'wimps' for wanting to provide for their children - they sacrifice too.

  • I disagree: I think we are all supposed to just like Francis. That should be the "normal" not the wimpy Christian lives most of us live most of the time.

(love your screen name, by the way!)
