  • He was fortunate to be in SILENT film. His voice was great in silence. It was Pola Negri's idea for him to record. Upon hearing this recording you know the meaning of "Strange Love". Great work. I loved it. Maya

  • @mayatatyana1 Thank you. I have read that Rudy's voice was husky and very pleasant, with a Continental accent. I've also heard at least three versions of why he did the recordings. One said he just wanted to take a whack at it, another said he did it for Natasha, and another said it was Pola's idea. I do know that when he listened to the recordings, he actually did say, "There goes my opera career!" But if he'd worked on his voice more I think he could've been a pretty good singer.

  • Oh, I am swooning. (sigh)

The remark he made at the end was so funny. lol

    Thanx Claire!!

    Merry XMas..;;-))

  • P.S. I hope you also had a Merry Christmas!

  • Played the guitar! Oh, that would have been wonderful if they had left the guitar playing in. :-((

  • I also recently found out that during the original recordings, Rudy played the guitar while he sang. Later the guitar sound was taken out and other music put in. Why??? Jeez, why are people always tampering with things like that when they're fine as they were??? It's almost as bad as scenes being deleted from his movies!

  • Me, too, and I'm sure all his fans would have also. But he probably assumed that his voice would soon be heard in talking films anyway.

  • Aw, the poor baby said that? I would have gone to see him sing opera. I would have bought any recording that he made.

    All his fans would. :-))

I would have been thrilled to hear him read the phonebook out loud, just to hear his voice. :-))

  • Did you know that that remark was actually spoken by Rudy himself when he heard the recordings? That's why he didn't do any more. I wish he had. Or, he could have read "Day Dreams" out loud.
