The first time I heard it was when I listened to my late uncles recording with his mariachi. And then later I heard recordings from his jarocho group. Jacinto, the harpist from Los Nacionales was first a member of Tierra Blanca/Conjunto Medellin. He played harp along side Mario Barradas. His wife was the best female vocalist for son jarocho. And a great dancer.
np. its one of my favorites. tlen huicani played it for me in san jose. they also played cielo rojo, el siquisiri, and another song for us besides what they performed(i have videos on my account of the songs the performed at the gala.) i also heard them play el colas, el cascabel, and la bamba for other groups.

You are quite right. It is the Ahualulco. First time I heard this song was 40 years ago played by the Conjunto Medellin of Lino Chavez.
