Jorma Kaukonen is the greatest fingerpicking guitar player ever, along with Leo Kottke, and his electric playing was incredible too!
And he is also a great singer and songwriter!
On this beautiful song called "Hamar promenade" from is 1974 album "QUAH" (a great masterpiece) he shows all his talent.

here's my facebook profile, if you wanna talk about music with me: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001479552377

  • lol the intro is so similar to purple haze

  • @whitefang4951 well... not really, but close lol

  • Hehe, when I saw the recommendation of "greatest ...", I immediately thought of Jorma's "Embryonic Journey" on the 'plane's Surrealistic Pillow album.

    Well, I was close.

  • @shaggybreeks yeah that's a great masterpiace too

  • I`m sorry but the use of a thumb pick stops him being the greatest finger picker, check out Mississippi John Hurt or Clarence `Gatemouth` Brown, real FINGER pickers.

  • @roadappleband Using a thumb pick has nothing to do with your ability to play the guitar acually. jorma is one of the greatest fingerpickers, that's all folks!

  • I was at the Beacon last night too. I remember when they used to do 2 shows in one night at the old Academy on 14th street. You went in at 8:00, they threw you out at 11:30, and then if you had tickets for the second show you went back in at 12:00, and it was daylight when they finished the second show.

It was good to be young and have lots of energy, and free time!

    HOT FUCKIN' TUNA!!

  • @hooeybrown Jorma Talked about his at the last show at the Beacon in December. They did not want to call the band Hot Shit. According to Jorma, Hot Tuna is "the answer to the musical question ...what's that smell like fish pretty momma , I really would like to know... form their song Keep on truckin' momma.

  • @jpds54 Legend has it they wanted to call the band "Hot Shit" but the record company objected. Dunno if that's true or not..... but it sure is funny as hell. Would not surprise me if it is true.

  • @roadappleband The Reverend Gary Davis alone blows your argument out of the water. Don't be so sanctimonious.

  • @roadappleband That's right, dude, if only he had learn to play with his fingers, he could have been good

  • @plonker00765

If you like acoustic rockin country blues with a strong slant on improv, get the 2 live Hot Tuna Albums. Live '69, and the one I like most is called Spalshdown '75. A radio broadcast concert that was released years later.

2 of my all time favorites, along with QUAH.

  • @roadappleband

Well...according to what you wrote Chet Atkins and Rev Gary DAvis do not count. Or LEo Kottke or Peter Huttlinger. Or Doc Watson...or...well, you get the picture :)

That said, I LOVE MJH's playing! Not yet heard CGB though. Will check him out.

  • @roadappleband Well that's fine, because he may not be a true finger picker in ur eyes!!! But he not only a better guitarist then you, he also isn't a dickhead going around and trying to call people out for stupid shit... So there!!!!!

  • @shaggybreeks haha same man!!!!!! Embryonic Journey is awesome!!!!!
