ROBIN on viola da gamba solo (Lyra-Viol)

My Robin is to the greenwood gone (anonymous), from Ian Gammie's collection Mr. Leonard's lessons.

These Elizabethan tunes, are often found in a few versions. Sometimes the title differs and sometimes the tune itself. This Robin is also found differently. By Byrd there is one in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, but this one sounds not like this Robin. The title could also bee Robin sweet Robin etc. This tune in Lyra style, is a mixture of chordal and melodic playing. The solo music for viola da gamba mostly consists of chords. Often, you need to tune your gamba in an other way, I don't like that however, because I lose my harmonic feeling in this way, so I am pleased with this collection.
