Paul Kim, a conducting student at the University of Maryland, arranged a montage of Dave Matthews songs for string quintet and violin soloist. I (Matthew Detrick) played the solo violin part, Paul Kim and Karu Suzuki played the violin parts, Ellen Gartner was the violist, Patty Garvey was the cellist, and Maurice Belle was the bassist. It's a sweet arrangement and was lots of fun to put together and perform. We performed it at the National Orchestral Institute this past summer.

  • What an inspiring performance. As both a composer and a violinist myself, I have to say that this performance and the composition itself is nothing more than sheer brilliance.

  • Thanks so much for your comments! It means more coming from a fellow musician.

  • that is so sick!!!! we have a big music festival....this is the kind of music i play on my other instruments and i hvae been getting pretty boring playingh all this old classical music in strings ensemble ( i play cello for it)... if you could send me the sheet music or we could buy it it would be greatly eappreciated.... the conductorsaid we could pick a piece for our next festival so it would be greatly appredciated if there was a way we could get it... thanks and great job on the arrangment!

  • wow!

  • This is amazing! Just curious, how long did it take you to arrange this?

  • Incredible!

  • you produce such a gorgeous tone on your violin!

  • The performers were members of the National Orchestral Institute, a summer festival dedicated to orchestral music. The festival offers the opportunity for players to be coached on chamber music, culminating in a recital at the end of the festival. The players chose to play this piece for the recital.

  • was this an independant performance or for a certain class? Im just curious..

  • ((applause)) Incredible
