They don't. The old SADF was one of the best armies in the world. The SANDF has a seriously declined combat capability and level of professionalism, and is largely incapable of offensive action. South Africa no longer truly has a first class military.

@Kampfer1445 Because we no longer spend close to 50% of our budget and chose to spend more on education and health etc as we're no longer and international nuisance ?
Good riddance. Why do we need an inflated armed forces ? Namibia or Zimbabwe going to invade us ? Pretty sure they have nothing we need or want.

Sorry to piss on your parade Seun, but I served in the force for 26 years, up to 2008. I left because I could not take the rot any more. Great vid, but I know what it looks like on the inside. No discipline, shortage of skilled pilots, sailors not skilled enough to dive a submarine, etc. A shadow of what it used to be...

I'm South African and I can assure you that while we don't have the best equipment or budget our army definitely has soldiers with the most guts.

To all the Rooivalk fans out there. I read the other day it's avionics and weapon systems are getting a complete new upgrade and will be ready for active duty by March 2011. At last it's tech is coming out of the 1980's!
