George and Howard on their seven-string guitars at the Jazz Bakery, Los Angeles, CA December 15 1994, performing the tune that George played on the soundtrack of the movie "Picnic".
thankyou so much for putting this up - we started out looking at tal farlow and then found the stuff of you and Mr Van Eps. Delightful i've got some vinyl of you both - but not playing together! - cheers, Bob and George
When George played all the other players near by would be there to listen and learn. I don't care who they thought they were, they left humbled and happy!
Where? I'm not sure what you mean exactly... could you either give an abstract example of what that is (ie. over a C7, what is G van E playing), or direct me to the min:sec mark in the video where this craziness happens? If I know *where* it is, I can eventually figure out *what* is is.
didnt know it was vaneps on that movie! i was a lil kid when i was mesmerized by ...kim novak! MISS NOVAK GOD BLESS YOU!!!maybe that's why i loved van eps sound later on?
1000TNX,mr alden, for the clips!!!
btw i'mdigitizing a few pages from vaneps books...aint that an idea?
Howard, thanks for the postings--esp. the Van Eps pieces. You have had the unique privilege of regularly playing with George in his later years. Your duo CDs on Concord with George remain very high on my playlist, along with Mellow Guitar and the Tal Farlow and Johnny Smith Mosaic packages. Oh, to have been there to see that club date in person!

Fantastic to be able to see the great George Van Eps of "Mellow Guitar" fame in action.
Thank you for posting this, Howard Alden. You are very lucky to have studied and played with this legendary guitarist.

Mr. George Van Eps was something! The 1st time I heard him, I couldn't beleive all that sound was coming from one (1) Guitar, 7-strings that is.
What a master!
