Auroville Ashram, Pondicherry
Friday, February 22, 2008
This new interpretation brings together Mallika and Joel and musicians from the two continents - Linda Wetherill who has been working on and playing the piece for ten years, violinist Julie Goodale, electronic expert Mike Kratter and Darpana's own K Jayan, Shaji, Palanivelu, Rajesh and Manikanthan.
The dancing has been created by the Darpana dancers in a workshop process - Arundhati Singha, Kishor Dave, Manoj Bagga, Murali Nair, Revanta Sarabhai and Sonal Solanki.
The light design and visual scape is the creation of Yadavan Chandran.
The dancers are led by Mallika Sarabhai and Sasidharan Nair.
Taking from five segments of the original work, the music is created as mandalas and the daning and movement veers between the story and the metaphysics as visualized by Sri Aurobindo.
