The landing of US Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River got me thinking. Here's the statistics I found on your chance of dying on a commercial flight.
I hope that's not too depressing - thanks for watching!
@oblivion292 Far as I can tell British Airways has not had a fatal incident since 1976, and the 747 definitely has a good reputation, especially as it has a very high number of redundant systems.
@rrpalk What about British Airways? I'm taking a 7 hour flight to London then another 2 hour flight to Italy..I think the plane is a 747....I'm a VERY nervous flyer..I'm departing from New York (where I live)... you think I'll be okay?
"If a passenger boarded a flight at random, once a day, everyday, it would statistically be over 21,000 years before he or she would be killed." - planecrashinfo
well, gotta remember. At least in the US that driving is more dangerous than flying, so if you are going to travel, one in 700,000 or whatever you quoted is better odds than being killed in a car wreck going somewhere. Can't live your life in fear but i do agree that you should increase your odds whenever you can.
@rrpalk Thanks for the info. You're the reason why I love youtube.
