Má leanaim go dian tú siar chun Cairibreach
Caillfead mo chiall mura driallfair abhaile liom,
óró, bead ag sileadh na ndeor.
Ná tar im dheoidh gan mórchuid airgid,
stampa Rí Shacsain go cruinn i dtaisce agat,
óró, i gcomhair costais an róid.
Ní bheidh cloig ar ár ndornaibh ó rómhar na ngarraithe
ná ó chruachadh na móna ná an fómhair á leathadh orainn,
beidh rince fada againn más é is fearra leat,
ór agus airgead, ól agus beathuisce,
óró, fad a mhairfimid beo.

  • Great video:

Small correction to translation in 1st verse.

"ó rómhar na ngarraithe" = "From digging the gardens" Probably "garraí" in the sense of potato field.

    Le gach dea-ghuí.

  • I was at a concert with Seamus Begley and Jim Murray in Stockholm some years ago. They were fantastic then and they still are. Thank you for posting.

Ah yes, getting close to a good old boxing match here: I love Sean O'Se singing the Poc ar Buile, a good Kerry song.

There is not much wrong either with Jimmy Crowley singing the "Bandon Car".

And will agree with you one hundred per cent, the dirty rotten bankers should be locked on Spike Island.

But no way should anyone who sings "the Banks" be locked up anywhere atall, except maybe in Cork.

  • Come on here now, John boy, I think Seamus Begley is one of the top Irish singers anywhere right now. If he has any problem at all it is being from Kerry but he is so damn good I cannot even hold that against him - he is a King from the Kingdom. However, he may as well leave the 'Banks' to Seán Ó Sé and to Jimmy Crowley. As for the dirty rotten bankers they should all be locked up on Spike Island - Ireland's answer to Alcatraz - without their iPhones. The Blaskets would be far too good for them!

  • @muisire

High praise. Thanks to a Cork neighbour. I bet they would do a great job on "The Banks" too if they were ever to sing the song. (I mean the "banks of my own lovely Lee" not the banks that have cost us billions.)

  • Go hálainn ar fad! Bhí mé sa Daingean don Fhéile Phancheilteach 2010 agus 2011. Ba mhór liom a bheith ann seal agus ba mhinic mé i Flahertys chomh maith.

Great tune wonderfully sung and played - sometimes even a Cork Boy like myself has to hand it to County Kerry - fair play now...

  • what a fantastic performance by both singer and guitarist , brilliant

  • File under 'perfect'.

  • Can't praise this enough: brilliant guitar, great singing from Seamus. Do I need to say more? Mile Buiochas duit clarebannerman.

  • Nafili played this once, long time ago. N I C E
