Battle for Dordrecht - 1940-

During the German invasion of the Netherlands, on the 10th of May 1940, German paratroopers tried to secure the bridges at Moerdijk and Zwijdrecht. With these bridges secured, the German troops could safely advance from Brabant to Rotterdam and the Hague, the heart of the Netherlands. Dutch forces tried to prevent the German advance at Dordrecht. During these hostilities approximately 300 soldiers (of which 100 German) and 60 civilians died. This makes Dordrecht one of the bloodiest battle grounds of the Dutch campaign.

This films shows a reconstruction of some of the most crucial military actions during the battle for Dordrecht.

@snipeahead Het standaard geweer van het Nederlandse leger in die tijd was het Mannlicher M95 model. Deze werd sinds 1904 onder licentie gebouwd door de Nederlandse Hembrug fabriek.

@KampfgruppeEicke ze vluchtte om te daarna te kunnen helpen, als ze in nl was gebleven was ze gevangen genomen of doodgeschoten, en toen ze in engeland zat heeft ze tenminste nog wat kunnen doen voor de nederlanders, als je in de bak zit of dood bent gaat dat een beetje lastig
