EU mulls Jerusalem divide - 8 Dec 09

Jerusalem is sacred to three religions and central to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

European Union ministers have gathered this week in Brussels to discuss a Swedish proposal that calls for the division of Jerusalem in order to serve as capitals of both Israel and a future Palestinian state.

The Israeli government has denounced the proposal, calling it a "dangerous" threat to peace efforts, but Palestinians need all the political support they can get to keep alive the dream of East Jerusalem as their capital.

Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland reports from the disputed city.
