Why the bootrs of Apollo 11 mission was so large, and the boots of Mercury had braids. Wasn't the mercury suits 100% presurized, I mean not 100% proof of any air to scape the suit?

As I understand it, Apollo suits were very insulated against both heat and cold as were Gemini EVA suits to a lesser degree. Mercury had a pressure suit similar to those used in the high altitude jets like the U2. Not a true space suit as we know them today. It was more for emergency decompression situations than anything.
