While watching Katrina unfold it was hard not to forget the the many promises made during Inaguration 2005. Bush was right - "It is human choices that move events..." Images by many, and music by Brian Eno, "And Then So Clear..."

  • This video is a joke. Why aren't the people who left New Orleans after Katrina, returning to rebuild their homes? Because they are waiting for the Government to do it for them. Why aren't we seeing video of Mississippi which was destroyed much more than New Orleans? The answer: Because the homes in Mississippi were owned by white people and who cares about them? Do you think the people that built this country depended or wanted help from the government?

  • mik - you have a point. probably because the images coming out of NOLA were more impactful? And many people have gone back to rebuild. Its easy to criticize when your tripping over mentholated icelandic bands...

  • Mead, I spent two weeks last spring in Beaumont, Texas rebuilding homes that were destroyed by Rita. Your video of an inauguration speach is incidental, this speech is seven months before Katrina hit. Btw, how many people do you think, derail the US Government but don't lend a single finger to rebuild their own property or help others? I am suggesting that it is up to the people to rebuild, all of us, not the government. Ask not what the government can do for you...

  • Mik - hats of to you. i agree. after Kat happened I rewatched the Inauguration speech and could only think of how hollow it rang, though. BTW - thanks also for quoting Khalil Gibran, who my great grandfather bought over to the US whose poetry was paraphrased by Kennedy...

  • Nice music who is the artist.

  • Brian Eno.

  • Wow. I cannot believe I just read what I think I did below. You are a pathetic excuse for an American. It wasn't a "nigga" city, it was an AMERICAN city. Thousands of blacks and whites were effected from this. I am ashamed of people like you!

  • I live in new orleans. and yes there are alot of gangs and alot of violence.

but the culture of my city and the people in it are all americans. and all of them have earned their right to live as they all earn the materials and love to live.

You say things like this because you were not there. you did not see some of the things we had to see and go through.

  • Hello the human race, so it is in this place that you express yourself in a kind of communicative networks, but know that all this demonstrates that you become weak and they will invade your planet, or is that, back on earth land to pick the right of this race and invade your case. Get ready, we will return soon :¬ToTyzuNFI¬² ... this is a code in which we can contact you

  • You're the most uneducated stupid fuck on You Tube. You don't know a thing about history. So go fuck yourself twit.

  • Cajuns from cananady, the french what? that has nothing to do with it? Black white? what I have read these comments and your historical referensing is pothetic.. You are the biggest moron I have ever seen. Black white black white, thats all you talk about..

  • You are so fucking stupid where you from?

  • Expect the same reaction when the big earthquake hits California in the next few years. Remember, I called it.

  • Also,a lot of Cajuns came from Canada when the French lost the French and Indian War, known in Europe as the Seven Years war.

There is no black and white issue. It's a POOR people issue.Brad Pitt is the only celebrity that is trying to help rebuild. Sean Penn came down and helped recover some of the bodies. It was heart breaking to see boated black and white people floating in the water. One white man had his face and half his arm eaten off by alligators. We need help down here more than Haiti.

  • if you can't help your own, who can you help? Talk is cheap, where was the help when your people needed it more? Even Canada sent help south while your government stood by the sidelines doing nothing, you should hold the accountable for the hardships they added to. Speaches mean nothing when you have no home, no food , no community, no support of your government that you elected. Our hearts and feelings are with you as you deserved better, you deserved better. I wish you all the best.

  • Agreed. In Canada we look at the country as our family and when they are need or in disaster we step in to help. We simply don't have that division of rich and poor in a Canada. We all contribute to help each other, incuding the homeless the sick and the needy. Your nation is judged on how it treats it weekest people, we care for our weekest people, your nation sadly put money ahead of people. We speak th same language and look the same but we are very different, very different.
