hahaha.... the Yamaha's have a brighter sound than something as dark as a Willson... but not Bessons... I will agree with you that Bessons do have a classic sound.... I don't know if Bessons represent "THE euphonium sound" as much as it is "The British Euphonium sound"... either way, I still know that Yamahas have a darker sound.. but Besson horns project better due to their smaller bore and more pointed, less dark sound.

Yes the Yamaha does have a brighter sound. The difference in bore size is hardly enough to make a difference in tone colour - it's got to do with the design of the horn, the weight of the metal, the thickness, and the type of metal. Bessons are known for their "Besson sound", aka the true euphonium sound -- which is darker, mellow and beautiful. The Yamaha sound is a notably brighter one.
-
Umm.. the Yamaha instruments don't have a brighter sound.. the Besson Euphs are smaller bore than the Yamaha 642 and the 842. The yamahas have a much fuller and darker sound. the bessons are brighter, but project a bit better than the yamahas.

Very nice! I've got a Prestige myself, used to play a Sovereign, but the difference is night and day! I didn't think that an instrument could make so much of a difference, but it does. Still waiting to do my first solo on it, but I'm toying with doing this one soon, now that you've brought it back to my memory.

A corps band with a lot of talent!

I've tried Adam Frey's yamaha, and I don't really like it. It doesn't have that FAT besson sound. I have a friend that plays in the New York Staff Band, and he stopped playing his Prestige to play Yamaha the youth band purchased for him. He didn't like it at all either. . .he said he couldn't play at his full potential with it...he couldn't play loud and stable. IF you like a brighter sound though, maybe it's the instrument for you. It's all about what you prefer!

I play on a sovereign for college and I agree it's a good euph. One of my friends has prestige and it's a good horn as well. Plays well in the low register. Personally I'm on the hunt for a Yamaha 642. I've heard that's a great horn as well. Keep up the good work!
How did this even get on here with out me knowing? I didn't even know it was recorded like this!

Hi, remember the CD I did? I also shoot a video of each meeting, but have not done anything with the footage because no one asked me to do a DVD. I put this on here because I shot it and you did such a good job. I will take it off if that is your request. I have had verbal positive feedback from others. It is your choice?
