part two...
Another simultaneous, "Yes, Chief," and I was, once again, being rushed around. Taylor had my arm in his grip and was guiding me out into the parking lot. I was expecting another sleek, black sedan. Instead, we were walking towards a green Nissan Pathfinder. It didn't take me too long to figure out that this was Taylor's personal car. He hoisted me inside, then climbed in himself. We waited till Dean got to his truck, a huge 4 door pick-up, then we were off.
We drove silently to my house. We parked around back and I got out, Taylor joined to my hip. I walked inside and headed up the stairs. I got my suitcase out of my closet and started throwing clothes inside.
"How long are we staying?" I asked as I rushed around my room while Taylor sat on the bed.
"As long as it takes."
So, given his vague answer, I just filled the suitcase. Then I went to the room down the hall and got Midnight. Once she was safely inside her carrier with her food, I came back to my room.
"Ok, let's go."
Taylor grabbed my bag and we headed back outside. We only made one more stop on our way to the hotel: Taylor's apartment, where he grabbed his essentials and we hit the road again. It was about a twenty minute drive, but it was extremely nerve racking. I compulsively checked the rear-view mirror for Dean's truck. I only stopped when Taylor pulled into a space in the hotel lot and Dean was safely beside us.
We unpacked the car while Dean kept an eagle eye out for anything fishy. The three of us walked into the lobby and up to the desk. A woman with attitude coming out of her ears called us up.
"We need a room." Taylor said.
She gave him an annoyed look. "Who doesn't, it's a hotel. One night is $145, cash or credit?"
"Neither, lady. We need a room." Taylor said again, this time laying his badge on the counter top.
She looked down at it and hastened to fidget with her clothes and hair. "Yes, sir. Just one room?"
Taylor nodded.
"One or two beds?"
"Two."
"Ok, room 543, sixth floor." She said, handing him a key card.
"Thank you."
Taylor placed his badge back in his pocket and we all walked to the elevator. We got to our floor and found our room. It was a pretty big suite. The downside, only one bathroom. I dragged my stuff over to my bed and plopped down. I let Midnight out of her cage and she curled up on my lap, purring.
"Well, looks like you guys are settled in." Dean said, then looked to Taylor. "I'll keep you updated."
"Good."
"Alright, I'm heading out then, see you."
I waved and then he disappeared. I sat Indian style on my bed while Taylor unpacked a few things, namely toothbrush and razor. He placed them in the bathroom. When he came back, he sat on the edge of his bed facing me.
"You ok?"
"Let's see, this guy is trying to kill me, I've been run out of my own house, and we have a bitchy hotel clerk. I'm awesome."
He laughed. "At least you're safe, that, I can promise."
