Yea the game sucks with all the magic and all. Just keep it to swords, arrows and horses, etc. In the original story only wizards (and there were just 2 active in the story) and some elves (also about 4) had actual 'power'. The nazgul used 'sorceries' but that's more like foul evil way of getting things done instead of real '' magic"
